The agency also revealed that the earthquake, which struck approximately 833 kilometers away from Addu City at a sea depth of 10 kilometers, caused no effect on Maldivian sea levels.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has revealed that an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 struck the Chagos Archipelago region around 8:00 PM on Wednesday night, October 7, 2026. The MET office informed that the earthquake originated approximately 833 kilometers away from Addu City. The authority also assured that there is no danger to the Maldives from this earthquake and it will have no direct impact.
