In brief

Under Article 83 of the Magistrate Court Regulations, it has been decided to make the submission of a thalassemia screening card mandatory alongside marriage application forms starting October 1. For road expansion and development work, the Housing Ministry has directed that land vehicles parked and sea vessels placed along Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the Tsunami Monument area to MPL be removed before the upcoming Saturday. Additionally, the newly asphalted section of Ameenee Magu is set to open to the public on the coming Sunday. Arrangements have now been made via the Hiyaavehi Portal for recipients of land from Gulhifalhu under the Binveriya Scheme to receive their documentation. Furthermore, the government's "Ahaa" forum, where cabinet ministers attend and answer questions from the public, was held on September 27 via PSM featuring Ministers Ali Ihusaan, Ahmed Shiyam, and Abdulla Rafiu.

Magistrate courts issued an announcement on September 30, 2026, mandating that the thalassemia cards of both individuals be submitted along with the marriage application form in the islands of the Maldives. This change was brought under Article 83 of the "Magistrate Courts Regulations" (Regulation No: R-60/2026), which will take effect on October 1, 2026. The regulation stipulates that although both individuals must be tested and their results submitted when applying for marriage, submitting the second person's test results is not mandatory if it is confirmed that one of the parties does not carry the thalassemia trait. With the implementation of this policy, magistrate courts across the islands, which had previously relaxed this requirement, stated that they will henceforth solemnize marriages only upon meeting this condition.

For the Boduthakurufaanu Magu widening and development project, the Ministry of Housing has instructed the removal of vehicles and other items parked on the street from the Tsunami Monument area up to MPL. While the Ministry has stated that vehicles and items not removed within the designated deadline will be cleared, this decision has caused difficulties for many vehicles using the area due to a lack of parking spaces. Although this measure was taken to clear the street to commence physical works on the third phase of the road widening project, public concerns have arisen over ordering the removal of vehicles without providing a permanent solution to the parking issue.

Final preparations to open the completed redeveloped section of Ameenee Magu to public transit have begun. Under this work, efforts are currently underway to complete the final arrangements required on the constructed section of the road and arrange for public access. Once this area is opened, it will bring immense convenience to motorists and pedestrians traveling along that road. Furthermore, relevant authorities are currently implementing all safety measures that must be completed before the road is opened.

Arrangements for submitting documents through the Hiyaa-vehi Portal were made and announced on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. Under this system, facilities have been provided to easily submit necessary and important documents digitally through the portal. It was noted that this will provide convenience to the public in submitting documentation.

It was officially announced on 30 September 2026 that the "Ahaa" forum, organized to provide information to the public regarding government policies and to offer an opportunity to ask questions, will be held. With this announcement, the general public has once again been given the opportunity to directly question ministers on important matters related to the government's work and to share concerns. Aimed at increasing government transparency and accountability, details regarding the date of the forum and ways to participate have also been revealed in connection with this announcement.
