On September 14, 2026, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim resigned from the post of Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto at the President's Office. Following this change, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Ahmed Habeeb to that position and assigned Mohamed Tholal to the post of Principal Secretary to the President for Tertiary Health Services. Former President Abdulla Yameen called on President Muizzu to stop pretending to be just and to investigate the cases of top government officials involved in the MMPRC corruption scandal. Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed strongly criticized the government, stating that President Muizzu is acting as if the entire country is his personal property. During a press conference held on September 14, 2026, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed stated that the price of the dollar in the black market has decreased compared to when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government took office in November 2023. At the press conference, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan said that foreigners operating in the black market dollar trade have been arrested, and that cases of not bringing goods into the Maldives after making TT payments are being investigated. As the daily e-commerce quota allocated under BML's $16 million monthly limit resets every morning at 7:00 AM, major congestion occurred due to attempts to make more than 70 transactions per second, exhausting the limit within a few minutes. Additionally, important discussions were noted in the economic sector regarding revenue generated from bunkering services, ATM Fair 2026, and halal tourism certification. In the transport sector, Maldivian has resumed flights to Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, while relevant authorities also held discussions regarding the creation of Air Addu.
Education
Teachers' responsibilities have increased in connection with changes brought to classroom arrangements. To enhance technical expertise in the maintenance and upkeep of the Sinamalé Bridge, a five-member technical team, including the Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, Ismail Shafeeu, has departed to participate in a 10-day training program conducted jointly by the Chinese government and CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company. This training program is scheduled to be held in China from September 15 to 26, 2026.
