In brief

During the official visit made to the atoll by the Minister of Health, Family and Social Welfare Dr. Aasim Ahmed or Jeela Ali, laboratory services at Shaviyani Lhaimagu Health Centre were officially inaugurated on Saturday, 3 October 2026, and at Narudhoo Health Centre on Sunday, 4 October 2026. The newly commenced laboratory services in these two islands provide access to routine and essential diagnostic tests, including blood tests, thereby enabling the residents of both islands to conveniently undergo important medical tests locally without having to travel to other islands.

On Sunday, 4 October 2026, laboratory services were officially launched at the health centers in Noomaraa and Lhaimagu of Shaviyani Atoll. Following the commencement of laboratory services at the health centers of these two islands, arrangements have now been made to conveniently conduct essential routine blood tests on the islands. As a result of this change, travel previously required to other islands to obtain laboratory services will be greatly eased, and the quality of healthcare provided to residents will be further strengthened. This service, initiated to strengthen the healthcare system, is a significant advancement for the residents of the two islands.
