Graced by Vice President Uz. Hussain Mohamed Latheef at a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre, the 38th National Quran Recitation Competition officially commenced on the night of September 10, 2026; out of 2,742 participants who competed in the audition, 379 students were selected for the semi-finals and 138 participants for the finals. In addition, to promote educational and literary skills, an oratory competition held in memory of Addu Bodu Fandiyaaru Thakurufaanu has also begun.

The 38th National Quran Recitation Competition officially commenced on Friday, September 11, 2026. This competition is an important national event conducted with the objective of generating interest among Maldivians in memorizing the Holy Quran and reciting it beautifully according to the rules of Tajweed, as well as fostering a competitive environment in the field. With a large number of participants from across the Maldives competing as the recitations proceed as scheduled, this marks a valuable step taken toward advancing the knowledge of the Quran at a national level.

The oratory competition held in memory of Addu Bodu Fandiyaaru Thakurufaanu is an important event conducted to enhance Dhivehi language skills and commemorate historical figures. In this competition, which commenced on September 11, 2026, special opportunities have been opened to advance public speaking skills and instill linguistic proficiency among students and youth. Through this competition, it is anticipated that the scholarly and national contributions of Bodu Fandiyaaru Thakurufaanu will be highlighted, further elevating the standard of linguistic communication among participants. Additionally, such a competitive speech contest will provide great encouragement for new generations to excel in Dhivehi literature and the art of communication.

Citing MIRA statistics, the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the government has now initiated efforts to recover 97 million dollars owed to the state in resort rents and fines. Furthermore, Qatar Airways has announced its decision to increase flights from Doha to Male from 12 to 21 per week starting October 25, 2026.
