New activities have commenced to urge an end to the genocide being carried out against the people of Gaza. Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef stated on 5 September 2026 that, following a report by 'The Wall Street Journal' alleging that Velana International Airport is being used as a transit hub to evade sanctions imposed against Russia, efforts are underway to investigate the issue and enhance the capacity of the Maldives Customs Service.
New activities have officially begun to halt the inhumane genocide being committed against innocent civilians in Gaza and to raise voices in support of Palestine. The main objective of this movement is to bring Israel's cruel aggressions and war crimes to the attention of the international community and to advocate for justice for the Palestinian people. Furthermore, efforts are being made through this initiative to call for swift action to rescue the people of Gaza from the destitute situation they are enduring, and to garner cooperation and assistance from around the world.
As disclosed on 5 September 2026, an assessment has begun regarding the capacity to monitor and manage goods sent to Russia and items subject to international sanctions. In this regard, special priority is being given to strengthening surveillance systems of relevant authorities to prevent sanctioned goods from circulating across borders through various countries. The main objective of this is to enhance the capacity to stop the illegal import and export of goods and to establish arrangements to fully comply with established international trade rules.
