The "Green Nursery" project, initiated by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to enhance the greenery of Hulhumalé, was officially inaugurated on 1 January 2026. The main objective of this project is to plant a large number of trees in Hulhumalé and create an environmentally friendly and pleasant environment. Through this nursery, the opportunity to obtain various types of plants needed for different areas of Hulhumalé will be facilitated. This is an important effort to sustainably green the island.

On January 1st of this year, a project to establish solar-diesel hybrid systems in various islands of Maldives was officially launched, marking an important step towards producing environment-friendly energy. Under this project, a large portion of the electricity used in the islands will be produced from sunlight, with the aim of reducing spending on oil. It is believed that these systems will continuously provide electricity services to the islands and will greatly advance the sustainable development of Maldives. Reducing reliance on oil and transitioning to clean energy is one of the most important tasks the government prioritizes with the start of this new year.
