The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) warned on December 30, 2025, to be cautious of online higher education programs conducted in the Maldives without seeking permission from the authority. In a statement released by MQA, it was noted that some programs are being advertised that do not meet the standards set for conducting online courses and are not accredited. The authority stated that certificates obtained by participating in such courses will not be recognized by the authority, and advised students and parents to ensure that a course is authorized before participating in it. This measure is an important step taken to maintain the quality of higher education in the Maldives and to protect the public from fraud.
