Today marks the end of the 2025 academic year, and students from all schools in the Maldives have gone on the major December holiday. The Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA) has decided on December 25, 2025, that PhD degrees awarded in the Maldives will be recognized only after completing three years of full-time study, in order to maintain the quality of PhD programs conducted in the Maldives. This decision was made under the new policy formulated by the MQA to bring the standard of higher education in the Maldives in line with international standards and to strengthen the field of research.
