The 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives was officially celebrated on Thursday, October 1, 2026; Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam attended the ceremony as the guest of honour, while First Lady Sajidha Mohamed delivered a congratulatory video message. In this ceremony, which was attended by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Ishigami Rumiko and senior state dignitaries, significant milestones were highlighted, including the aid provided for development and disaster risk reduction through the embassy established in 2016, the provision of Japanese scholarships to more than 200 Maldivians, the modernization of fisheries, as well as assistance extended in the security sector.

Special events were held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives. On this occasion, the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries and the various assistance provided to the Maldives through the embassy over the past ten years were highlighted. High-level officials from both countries attended the celebration, discussing and renewing their resolve to further strengthen ties in economic, educational, and social fields in the future as well. This anniversary was marked as an important symbol of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Japan.
