The Ministry of Education has released the tentative academic calendar for 2027, with classes scheduled to begin on January 17, 2027. During the "Rayyithunge Adu" (Voice of the People) program, the mother of a child with Down syndrome, Fathimath Fairooza Adam, presented to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu an issue where five schools denied admission to her child. Villa College held its graduation ceremony from September 30 to October 1 at the QI Campus, with a total of 1,237 students graduating. The annual "Dhivehi Sufura" event held by the PTA of B. Kihaadhoo School raised 321,088 Rufiyaa for the development of the school.
The academic calendar for the 2027 new academic year for schools in the Maldives was officially published on 1 October 2026. This published calendar details the date when classes will start for the upcoming academic year, term holidays, the period covered by the annual major vacation, as well as the schedule for important examinations. The main purpose of this is to plan school learning activities in advance and provide an adequate opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to prepare fully for the new academic year. Following the publication of this calendar, all administrative and educational activities of the schools are set to proceed in accordance with the schedule.
The issue of a child with Down syndrome not receiving placement in schools and losing the opportunity to attain an education has been officially submitted to the President. Expressing concern over this matter, it was submitted to the President because, despite the existence of policies ensuring equal opportunities within the education system for children with special needs, the child has not been granted the right to study. Furthermore, the President was requested to ensure school placement for such children without any discrimination and to provide a swift and permanent solution to such problems.
Villa College's graduation ceremony began on Thursday, 1 October 2026, at the college's main center, QI Campus, and is currently underway. During this ceremony, certificates were awarded to numerous students who successfully completed courses in various fields conducted by Villa College. In addition, recognizing the accomplishments of students who achieved notable academic distinctions, special awards were also presented during the event. The ceremony taking place at QI Campus was attended by graduates, their parents, as well as senior officials and staff of Villa College.
The 'Dhivehi Sufura' fundraising event initiated by the PTA of B. Kihaadhoo School has raised 321,088 Rufiyaa. The school stated that the funds raised this year in this annual event mark the highest amount generated from the event to date. In this activity, which was conducted with stalls featuring local Maldivian products and ticket sales, a total of 1,111 tickets were sold at rates of 190 Rufiyaa and 1,500 Rufiyaa. As the event concluded successfully with strong support from nearby resorts to Kihaadhoo, parents, and various island institutions, the school extended its gratitude to all contributing parties.
