Relevant authorities have officially granted approval to carry out a special mud crab fattening project in a mangrove area. The primary objective of this project is to commercially expand the fattening and rearing of crabs utilizing the natural mangrove ecosystem, thereby driving further advancements in the Maldives' mariculture sector. Granting permission for such a project represents an important step toward creating new economic opportunities by utilizing lagoons and mangroves sustainably without harming the environment. In addition, this work will proceed in accordance with established regulations and standards, ensuring that no damage is caused to the fragile mangrove environment.
Significant work has been carried out using an artificial reef to protect and expand the beach of a Maldivian resort. Under this project, the artificial reef was established to provide a sustainable solution to beach erosion and to facilitate the natural accumulation and widening of sand along the shoreline. Additionally, this artificial reef will create a new habitat for marine life, contributing to an increase in reef biodiversity. Expanding beaches using such eco-friendly, innovative techniques marks an important step toward coastal protection in the Maldives' tourism sector.
