The manager of the GA. Vilingili Atoll Hospital, Ali Shameem, stated on 28 September 2026 that the digital X-ray machine sent to the hospital by the government in mid-2024 remains unused in storage because the upgrading of the electrical network and the necessary structural modifications to the building have not yet been completed.
An issue has surfaced regarding a digital X-ray machine sent to Gaafu Alif Vilingili being kept in storage without being installed, causing residents of the island to face difficulties in obtaining adequate healthcare services. Because this vital equipment brought for the health needs of the citizens has remained unused for an extended period, public criticism and concern have grown. Calls are being made to the relevant authorities to resolve this issue and install the stored X-ray machine as soon as possible to make its services available to the general public.
