On 23 September 2026, the R. Vaadhoo Council announced a decision to implement around eight strict measures to improve the conduct of school children, including prohibiting them from being outdoors without a guardian after 9:00 PM and barring them from public parks and sports grounds after sunset. The Employment Tribunal has ordered the Civil Service Commission to pay MVR 82,529 to an Indian teacher who worked at Dh. Atoll School as compensation for the remainder of their contract, ruling that the dismissal was unlawful.
Due to increasing behavioral issues among students of R. Vaadhoo School, the island council announced strict measures and new guidelines on 23 September 2026 to resolve the issue. Among the guidelines established, students are banned from staying outside without a guardian after 21:00 at night, and the use of parks and sports areas after sunset is prohibited. In addition, playing sports during prayer times, going onto the breakwater without parental permission, and traveling out of the island have also been prohibited. Furthermore, measures have been taken to halt making children perform heavy labor not suited to their age, as well as tobacco consumption and making them engage in tobacco trade; the council stated that action will be taken against those who violate these guidelines.
On Wednesday, 23 September 2026, after examining the case of a dismissed Indian teacher, the relevant authority ordered that compensation be paid to the teacher. In this case, it was determined that because the teacher was dismissed in violation of laws and regulations, compensation must be provided for the damages incurred. In addition, an order was issued to arrange the compensation payment in accordance with established procedures following this decision.
