As a strengthening El Niño is expected to cause temperature rises and shifts in rainfall patterns, with the peak impact forecasted for November 2026, the Maldives Meteorological Service (Met) has urged the fisheries, agriculture, and tourism sectors, as well as the general public, to take precautionary measures in advance. To raise awareness about marine life among children and youth, SEED Initiative, in partnership with Dhiraagu, carried out practical activities to protect seagrass and mangrove ecosystems in Hulhumalé, K. Kaashidhoo, and B. Goidhoo under the 'Eco Guardian' program.

Commenced on September 6, 2026, this program is an activity specifically run to promote the conservation of natural resources and sustain environmental health. Its primary goal is to increase the participation of the public and youth in environmental conservation and to build a capable generation that can manage environmental affairs in a sustainable manner. Under this program, important practical actions that can be implemented at the community level to minimize negative impacts on the environment are scheduled to be introduced.
