Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Teachers' Conference held at Shaheed Ali School, Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu stated that society must respect the autonomy and authority of teachers in shaping students, and that teacher participation in school administration should be increased. In addition, applications for 24 slots in the 13th Medical Internship conducted by IGMH and Dharumavantha Hospital have been opened for individuals who have completed MBBS, from September 6 to September 24, 2026.
In remarks regarding the importance of respecting teachers, the Minister of Education highlighted the crucial role teachers play in building society and shaping the future of students, and called for their appreciation. In addition, he emphasized the importance of protecting the honor and dignity of teachers in both the school environment and everyday life, and of students, parents, and the entire community working together to cultivate the fine habit of respecting educators. The Minister's speech also made clear that the education system will be further strengthened and progress only when teachers' work is recognized and they are given the love and respect they deserve.
The opportunity to complete an internship at three government hospitals has been opened. This opportunity is an important initiative launched to provide practical experience and necessary professional training in the field for students and graduates pursuing education in the health sector. Under this program, participants will be provided the opportunity to learn practical work in various hospital departments under the supervision of experienced doctors and healthcare professionals. Furthermore, this is a significant step toward improving the quality of healthcare services in the Maldives and introducing capable Maldivian youth into the healthcare field.
